Analysis for certification of floating derrick crane barge. GHSCom, which
allows the General Hydrostatics application to be accessed dynamically from
a Visual Basic interface, was utilized extensively for this project. By
automating the positioning of the crane and counterweights in
three-dimensions, the maximum lifting capacity could be rapidly mapped
out within the crane manufacturer's tight list vs. load constraints.
-Lower Monumental Removable Spillway Weir Lower Girder Splice Flange
A solid model Finite Element Analysis was performed on this large-scale,
highly stressed bolted joint. The effects of bolt pre-tension were
incorporated. The use of the 3D FEA model allowed accurate simulation of
the joint behavior under load and the interaction with its multiple
foundations. The sheer magnitude of the loads involved combined with the
need for planning under-water modification by divers presented extra
challenges for this job.
